The Marlin 795 is one of the most popular .22 semi automatic rifles and for good reason. Not only is it affordable but it is also very reliable and very accurate. One of the quiet bargains in .22’s, it lacks the mass appeal of the Ruger 10/22, in that it doesn’t have as much of a custom parts market.

On the other hand, it doesn’t need it. Out of the box, many people, including myself, maintain the 795 is superior to the 10/22, and that only through additional modification and upgrades can a 10/22 beat out a stock 795. What this means is if you are a fortunate Marlin 795 owner, you can skip the ritual of buying a better barrel and trigger, and jump straight to other upgrades—like optics.

This rifle ships with a standard Weaver rail, which begs the question “Just what is the best Marlin 795 scope mount?” Well, we’ve found 4 and right after these reviews, we also go into what criteria you should be looking for when selecting for the best mount for your rifle.

Leapers Accushot One Piece Mount

This is a pretty darn good choice. Leapers is famous for gun accessories, and this rugged, reliable one piece scope mount is no exception. While many scope mounts are simply a pair of rings, Leapers offers a stable, one piece base that also ensures a perfect return to zero when removed from your rifle for cleaning. With 1” rings, you can be sure of mounting nearly any popular scope, and the three screw locking design ensures a more stable mounting platform than most scope rings or bases. If you are after the maximum performance from your rifle, this should be your first choice. These are among the best Marlin 795 scope rings you can buy.

Dovetail to Weaver Base

Of course, another option is to simply install a one piece base and use the rings or optics of your choice. This is ideal if you want to run a red dot or say a scope with a 30mm tube or simply have the benefits of a one piece base and the flexibility of choosing your own rings. Either way, this 3/8” dovetail to Weaver base is one of the best scope Marlin 795 scope mounts, even if it isn’t quite a scope mount in and of itself. Pair with a set of rings listed below and a good scope and you’ve got yourself a real winning combination.

Weaver Quad Lock Rings

These will work great with either base listed above. A rugged set of 1” rings, the Weaver Quad Lock provides a highly stable mounting platform for your scope of choice. Perfect for scopes with smaller objective lenses that are popular on .22’s. You will be able to run a great many modern riflescopes on your Marlin 795 with these. Made of aircraft grade aluminum and finished with a long lasting black coating, you know if it says “Weaver” on it, it will be hands down some of the best Marlin 795 scope rings on the planet.

Simmons 22 MAG 3-9 x 32 Riflescope with Mount

Looking to take the quick way out and get rings and a scope for your Marlin 795 at once? Well, this is the hands down best solution. A quality 3-9 power Simmons scope with an ideal optic for rimfire shooters. The 32mm objective lens is bundled with a set of rings for 3/8″ dovetails, making this a turn-key proposition. As a bonus, the scope isn’t cheap junk but rather a highly rated optic made to demanding standards with fully multicoated optics, waterproof and fog-proof construction, and built specifically with rimfire shooters in mind. Save time and money with this great bundled package, and get shooting faster! Sometimes, the best Marlin 795 scope mount becomes with a ready-made scope!

UTG Medium Profile Rings

These little gems will fasten directly to your built in 3/8” receiver grooves with no additional parts needed. Probably an all-around best choice for Marlin 795 scope rings, these medium profile rings allow use of a larger forward objective lens. An ideal choice if you don’t care about the flexibility of using a Weaver rail and need to mount your scope a bit higher up. Along the same line, the UTG high profile rings are a must have if you are shooting a scope with an objective lens more than 40mm or so. The Marlin 795 is an astounding out of the box rifle, and well worthy of a larger than average scope.

The Marlin 795, Scopes, Rings, and You

Because The Marlin 795 has a standard 3/8” dovetail on the top of the receiver, some people are turned off. This is absurd as the 3/8” dovetail has been around for decades and is an extremely popular way of mounting scopes to small rifles. This no-frills approach to design also means you have a number of ways to scope your Marlin.

My personal choice is to buy a set of rings like the UTG medium or high profile, a good scope, and then simply go to town. Another great advantage of the 3/8” dovetail is that a great many red dots will clamp right on to it, and I’ve long been a fan of a red-dot equipped .22. For tin can plinking distance, a red dot is tough to beat and even good for small game hunting.

However, there is also a lot to be said for installing a wider Weaver or Picatinny rail on the receiver. Because the Picatinny rail is so ubiquitous, there are a myriad of optics and mounts designed to attach to it. This makes scoping your 795 a bit easier and also allows you to use the same optics you might use on your favorite AR-15 or other tactical rifle, or even more inexpensive clones of popular optics that won’t stand up to centerfire use.

The Marlin 795 is truly a rifleman’s .22. If you want a flashy, glitzy tricked out .22, its not for you. But if you want an unassuming, yet well made .22 that brings back memories of shooting as a kid, this is it. Pick the best Marlin 795 scope mounts and optic that work for you, and enjoy years of good, wholesome rimfire fun!

  1. Greetings from CA and thanks for this information! I just bought myself a Marlin 795 (my first and only rifle) not too long ago and am set for pick up on 04/13/19 at 1300. I went with an old boy of mine’s Montana-raised advice and picked it up instead of a Ruger 10/22, much to the chagrin of the “gunbros” at Turner’s. I continue to read nothing but love and admiration for this rifle (can’t say the same for the various Ruger 10/22 posts I’ve ghosted prior to my 795 purchase). That Simmons .22 MAG 3-9×32 riflescope w/mount combo looks just like what I was hoping to find, and what a GREAT price! I believe I saw the same brand scope and magnification WITHOUT the mount/rings going for $80+ in the store! MUCH APPRECIATED, CAN’T WAIT TO START PLINKING AWAY WITH SOME NOW CA-LEGAL 25/70-ROUND MAGS!
